Dietary Choices and Urinary Incontinence
Making healthy life choices doesn't mean you can't enjoy living your life. However, did you know certain drinks and foods can irritate the bladder and increase the risk of leaking, such as coffee, alcohol, and acidic foods such as citrus fruits?
We aren't suggesting that you can't go for a coffee date or a drink with friends. It is important, however, to be mindful of how it may affect your bladder.
When it comes to drinking, here are a few things to consider:
- Stay hydrated. Not drinking enough water can prevent your bladder from functioning correctly. It's recommended to drink six or more glasses of water a day.
- Limit Alcohol and Caffeine Consumption. Both of these drinks are diuretics. This means they can cause frequent urination and increase urinary incontinence.
